What are the signs of bedbugs?

The main signs of a bedbug infestation are:
Bites - this is often the first indication of a problem. A bed bug bite can be similar to that of a mosquito. Some people are very badly affected by bed bug bites where can cause a nasty raised welt leading to skin infections and or a rash.
Your are rarely woken by biting bedbugs they start the feeding process by injecting an anaesthetic saliva this stops any feeling of being bitten and helps to stop blood from clotting during feeding. It is usual for a bed bug to give multiple bites in lines following veins. They are not fussy where they bite legs, arms, body or your face will provide a good blood feed.
There is no proof that bed bugs spread diseases.
Bed Bug sighting - it is unusual to see bed bugs, they are elusive and nocturnal, they hideaway in the tiniest nooks and crannies, they live anywhere they fit and an unfed bed bug is very flat so it can fit almost anywhere.
Bed bugs fee at around dawn so this is the best time for sighting. If you think you have an infestation set you alarm clock for around 3:30am and you may spot them while the feed.
An adult bed bug is a reddish-brown colour about the same size and shape as a small ladybird. Their eggs are whitish in colour and are sticky so they can adhere to any surface. Newly hatched bugs are no bigger than a pinhead. As they grow, they shed their skin five times before reaching adulthood. They feed between each moult. An infestation can grow very rapidly bugs can completely develop in 30 days, a female bed bug can produce over 1,000 eggs in a life time.
Faeces - Brown spots caused by bed bug faeces on bedding is a tell-tale sign, Dark brown stains on wood work could indicate a defecating bed bug this is sign of feeding bed bugs
Blood stains - This is another sign of an feeding bed bug, probable an over feed bug at that.
Smell - in the worst of infestations you can often smell a pungent stench
